I've been working on a collaborative printing project with artist Matthew Miller, aka Sunflowerman, over the last few weeks. We have been getting ready to launch a line of woodblock prints, each printed by hand on old Sherlock Holmes book pages. Matthew created each of the designs, and we carved and printed the blocks together. [caption id="attachment_797" align="alignnone" width="692"] First step involves sanding, sealing, sanding and maybe some gluing![/caption] [caption id="attachment_796" align="alignnone" width="1000"] Then the carving starts. The process involves cutting away everything you don't want.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_798" align="alignnone" width="665"] Then the inking starts. The perfect print balances right between too much ink and too little. Too much will cause the details to disappear, but too little means that the black won't be solid.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_799" align="alignnone" width="1000"] Final prints![/caption] After much carving, sanding, inking and pressing on our part you can check out the final blocks now through Sunday at Fab.com!
